This will be one of the most exciting races to watch. Danny, Medrano and Morfin will split the bulk of the votes, and will be pretty even at the end. If solis gets less than 40% of the vote in the election, he is toast during a runoff. Anything between 40-50 and he has a very good chance to pull off a re-election.

Don’t be suprised if the winning candidate is not who you think it will be. Forces are allying to bring a big change to the 25th!

Line up the list of accomplishments of jobs in industrial corridor, affordable housing setoffs, and public works for Solis against:

convicted extortionist who plead guilty to taking 31 thousand in bribes in one and two the taken at City Hall, and also to ghost payrolling two jobs who violated the trust of the people ((which if re-elected would be like putting child sex offender back in the classroom as a homeroom teacher)),

two HDO puppets,

one ex-alderman who doesn’t really live in the ward

a developer’s wife

and a probation officer who has no clue about what he is talking about but has a lot of campaign workers from outside of the ward and the state.

This race should be won on accomplishments and vision not on negativity.

What the report neglects to mention is that almost all of the vendors who received TIF funds contributed money to Daley or Solis. In some cases the contributions were checks from the company. In other cases they were personal donations from company officers. Since 2004, for instance, Acme has donated $11,000 to the 25th Ward Regular Democrat Organization, whose president is Solis. Since 2001 V & V has donated $3,400 to Solis’s organization and Rubin Brothers $4,050. If you broaden the count to include the developers building the condos on 18th Street, you see that Mota has contributed $31,150 to Solis’s organization since 2004 and Kimball Hill $4,000. Cisneros sent a check for $2,500 on August 16, 2005, just a few months before he announced the condominium plans.

Both Medrano and Soliz are known opponents. Morfin is new and he may have a chance to break into politics after this election. I’d say that Medrano and Solis are the main candidates, and each gets about 35-40, and both will be in a runoff. After that, we will see who the current elected officials (Munoz, Acevedo, Moreno) support. Daley may or may not want to get involved in the runoff.

HDO members Aron del Valle and Joe D. Acevedo are trying to unseat Solis.The alderman said he has asked Daley and HDO chairman Victor
Reyes, a former top mayorial aide, to encourage them to drop out.

During the 22nd Minute of the debate Danny Solis says, “We just can’t build schools. There have been 85 million contributed to the schools in Pilsen since I have been here. We didn’t need that bond.”

This is in response to the ONE BILLION DOLLARS that on December 13th the city council had approved for building, development and expansion of the city’s schools and how NOT A SINGLE school in the 25th ward had received ANY funding. Since “We didn’t need that bond,” Danny Solis must feel there is no room for improvement since he feels he’s done enough getting “some” money in that the ONE BILLION DOLLARS is nothing we can use to fix our schools in our ward. Even if “We didn’t need it” he should be fighting for the ward and not just settling for the bare minimum but trying to get every cent for us that he can. “WE DIDNT NEED IT” ?!? What kind of alderman do we have. Juarez has the highest drop out rate in the city and “WE DIDNT NEED IT” I want to know who WE are. Is the “WE” the real estate developers he cares about. It sure isn’t the parents and children of his ward he is talking about because WE DO NEED IT.
