| PREDICTIONS | CURRENT VALUE | TODAY |
| Virginia Rugai (incumbent) | $49.61/ $100.00 | (closed) |
| Timothy J. Sheehan | $19.30/ $0.00 | (closed) |
| John Somerville | $31.08/ $0.00 | (closed) |
Somerville sent out a powerful mailer that hit this weekend.
Rugai will beat Somerville again like she did 4 years ago.
Somerville thinks he is all it, with no good plan for the ward.
Tim Sheehan is a nice guy, too nice to be involved in this race.
Rugai and Sheehan are the onlyt candidates to be taken seriously; somerville will be lucky to get 15%.
Somerville signs seem to be going up everywhere.
Ginger Rugai and Tim Sheehan are the only signs prominent in the Ward. Josh’s comments not withstanding. Among the sixty plus houses in my immediate view, there is one Somerville sign on 109th Street and one at 107th Street. If they ‘seem to be going up eveywhere;’ I’ll have what he’s having.
All I see is Rugai and Sheehan signs everywhere, far more then Somerville signs. I say Somerville will be in 3rd.
Signs don’t vote
I think Ginger will win easily!
It may not be an “easy” win – but I agree Ginger is well on her way to victory if turnout is average…
Somerville has had some strong ads and mailers, making a good case for change.
I hope his idea of change isn’t falling off the wagon. Who will be in charge then? His brother? God help us.
The nastiness of your remark identifies you as a Rugai/Joyce supporter.
Thought that it was Rugai,Ginger. Rugai, Joyce could be as sister but I don’t think that she’s running.
The Somerville Campaign surely knows whose running, of the course some of their more vocal yokels think that Tim Sheehan is running with Ginger Rugai. Will Somerville mount his Third run for Alderman on March 1, 2007? Appears so.
Will Luke be the Puppet Master telling John to what he should do?
He was singing away on the Stand under oath.
Luke is running the street campaign, they need someone who knew how to hammer a piece of wood into the ground for all those hugh billboard type signs. But remember, signs do not vote!
I wonder if there had been any market manipulation here? 85% chance for Ginger seems a but high. If Ginger does win, we will probably find out in 6 months who will actually be the alderman for the next 3.5 years. She will retire no doubt about that. But I guess we all want Daley to choose who will run the ward for us. Maybe we will get a job or a promotion for our loyal support!
The Beverly Review just outed John Somerville’s integrity with a blockbuster article – Those stunningly ‘powerful mailers’ noted below concerning development issues in the 19th Ward featured color photos of blighted properties – turns out the properties are owned by Somerville’s biggest backer check them out. This campaign is a hoot. Here’s a question – Why do only the college kids in the ‘killer’ blueprint photo wear site helmets and the candidate and his ‘developer/architect do not? Must be some OSHA violation – n’cest pas?

That’s a great critique of the photo. I was more shocked by how many developers were interested in the property at 106th & Western but didn’t buy it because of Ginger. What about the picture of the property at 115th & Western? Does Gibbons own that own too? Bash Somerville all you want, but I still don’t see any reason to vote for Ginger. But I guess it’s southside mentality to have the same people in power for 30 years. You got to love do nothing Chicago politics!
It’s all about integrity what was that on the banner ‘Change you can Trust?’ 115th & Western is being developed as a recreational facility – old story. The Beverly Review and now the Tribune have shined a light on soon to be two time loser Somerville’s desperation campaign -he’ll do anything – anything – to be alderman. He really had some swell advise on this one – shot in the foot with a little help from his friends.
Why don’t see you say something positive about Ginger? You’d rather say as many bad things about Somerville because you are scared he might win. Seriously, what is so good about Ginger that we should let her retire in office & then get whoever Daley wants for us. I’ll believe it when I see it concerning a 115th & Western. We’ve heard things like that before.
Somerville does not need anyone to ‘say anything bad about him’ – his friends are doing more than enough on that score. Sure, I like Ginger and I’ll probably vote for her – barring that almost certainty, or if Ginger were not in the race I’d vote for Tim Sheehan an honest man and a real gentleman.
John Somerville has supporters and some of them are very nice and thoughtful people, but too many have not really allowed their good qualities to surface. John Somerville is all about his candidacy – that should be good enough for him. It will be.
You still don’t say why someone should vote for Ginger. I get the impression that most people just vote for her and other incumbents in the city & state elections without even thinking about why. This is the way the Chicago “machine” works.
I will vote for Ginger Rugai – I would not presume to tell other people what to think, do, or vote other than say simply that there are two valid candidates in the race and neither one of them is John Somerville.
I will vote for Ginger Rugai. And, you can continue to rave on about "machines’ and robots for all I care. Somerville is outed by his own community. Good enough for me.
Ok, so you won’t tell people what you think about Ginger, but you will tell anyone who will listen what to think about Somerville. You add nothing of value to the discussion if you just repeat your dislike of Somerville over and over. But maybe you are not interested in a discussion, you just want to throw in comments here and there that disparage one candidate without offering anything positive.
Sean, save it for your agenda.
?
Senator Barack Obama endorsed Alderman Ginger Rugai last week!
Actually, it is very unclear that Senator Obama endorsed Rugai. A reporter I know has made repeated calls to the office and has gotten no confirmation of an endorsement. Rugai said that he had in an ad but, in addition to being a racist, she has a history of lying. Why would Obama endorse a racist?
Josh, have a copy of wednesday’s Beverly Review sent up to Lake County. It was clear to everyone down here in the 19th Ward. Obama endorsed Rugai!
To make a foolish charge of racism like that only puts your poor guy back into single digits for Feb. 27th.
They’re paying you? My, My, My! Is this a land of opportunity or what?
Obama has endorsed anyone that Daley has asked him to. I doubt he really cares about the 19th ward election or has given it much thought. Obama also endorsed Todd Stroger…
Senator Obama endorsed Alderman Rugai. Not only that; Somerville’s Campaign manager said, in hard copy, that Ginger Rugai is a racist and "why would Obama endorse a racist?’
Ask the next President, Josh.
The Chicago Tribune endorsed Tim Sheehan today.
Pat, given your unwavering support for those in power in the 19th, you probably voted for Dan Hynes when he ran against Obama in the primary in 2004. Don’t forget the 19th ward was one of 5 Chicago wards that Hynes actually won. Now you talk about Obama and this amazing endorsement as if it is something that people should actually use in their decision on who to vote for when most in the 19th did not want him in the Senate in the first place. And it sounds like you think he will be president. It didn’t take you long to get into Obamamania, as long as he is not running against a Hynes or Rugai.
Never assume – as you know the rest. I voted for Obama over Rush; for Vallas over Hynes; and continue to vote according to the merits of the candidate and yes I do defer to the Organization on occassion.
As for the ‘hang-nail of Beverly’ his last ego-driven fluke and impressive numbers had nothing to do with his intrinsic worth as a candidate for any elective office. He is a career ‘appointment’ employee. Somerville was convinced by someone at an early age that he was somebody – he is – Not the biggest jerk in politics but he will do nicely.
He will not poll double digits on Feb. 27th, because he is such a polarizing and self-absorbed entity. Good race between Ginger and Tim, but run, John, run is not a factor,
